From evading taxes to money laundering, insiders at her company are complaining of oppression and poor treatment. Others say she can do anything to win tenders.

Sources at Kenya Power say that she was involved in several tender cancellations and controversies.

One notable case involves the procurement of smart meters, where the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority found that Kenya Power disregarded its own bidding conditions and rules.

The authority claimed that Kenya Power awarded a multi-billions shillings contract to Smart Metres Technology Ltd despite the company having outstanding orders and failing to deliver 91,000 metres on time.

Other tenders Ying Catic is involved in are Supply of Electric Motorcycles, Provision of Fleet Tracking and System Support Services and Procurement of Spare Tap Changer for 45 MVA 132/33 Transformer.
