As a majority of Kenyans had resigned back in their various dwellings in the confines of the government curfew, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and Deputy President were in deep discussions in a meeting that was held at the DP’s Karen home. Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi is the one who picked up Sonko from his Upper Hill office and took him to the DP’s Karen home.
According to sources the meeting lasted until midnight on Tuesday, April 21 where the two held discussions on county and national affairs before Sonko, on Wednesday, April 22, announced that he was to commence the process of terminating the transfer of key Nairobi County functions to the National Government.
In an agreement that was officiated at State House, the Governor himself signed an agreement, where he handed over hmover functions of the Nairobi County Government to the National Government on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. This agreement was signed with Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa in the presence of with His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Governor Sonko had cited frustrations claiming that cartels had been roped in to scuttle his administration and further ruin his deal with the State.The National government is curren4thly in charge of a number of county func4thions including county health services, county transport services, county public works, utilities, and ancillary services as well as county government planning and development.
