One Colonel Chesire, current Commander OFM (Operation Fagia Msitu, Boni forest) is proving to be so divisive in the operational area. The Multi-Agency approach to countering terrorism in the wider Lamu county is losing tract as a result of this Commander who’s intent on undermining all within the HQs.
Most staff officers drawn from across all security agencies serving in Boni have been in theatre for so long and better understand it’s dynamics than Col Chesire who’s only 2 month old in theatre, him having served as a staff officer for over a decade in Nairobi. Definitely he’s very rusty on matters command and being headstrong without necessarily consulting and treating all other stakeholders as equals is a time bomb.
Instead of focusing on mutually concentrating effort to defeat Al-Shabaab, Col Chesire is busy cultivating grounds to sprout mistrust amongst all agencies, hence leading to gaps easily exploitable by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Locals of Boni need an all unifying leadership that’ll quash the existent threat and stabilise Lamu, for they seek opportunities in ongoing govt projects of LAPSSET and road construction. For this, authorities concerned had better counsel the Commander to better understand Multi-Agency intricacies like his predecessor did.
