A suspect linked to an alleged land fraud case involving a prime property in Diani, Kwale County, valued at approximately Sh45 million, has been arraigned in court.
George Nyambati Mochache was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) following investigations into alleged fraudulent dealings involving a three-hectare parcel of land.
According to the DCI, the property was purchased by the complainant in 1991.
The dispute emerged in April 2023 after the complainant was reportedly informed that a third party had entered the property and allegedly begun subdividing the land by placing beacons.
The individual also allegedly commenced clearing activities on the property and advertised portions of the land for sale.
The matter was subsequently investigated by detectives from the LFIU, with the completed inquiry file forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and advice.
Following the review, the ODPP directed that Mochache be charged with conspiracy to defraud.
The suspect was arrested at DCI Headquarters on October 2, 2026, after responding to a court summons. He was subsequently processed and escorted to Kwale ahead of his arraignment.
On Monday, October 5, Mochache appeared before the Kwale Law Courts, where he denied the charge.
The court granted him a Sh10 million bond and scheduled the matter for mention on October 29, 2026.
The DCI said its Land Fraud Investigations Unit will continue pursuing cases involving alleged fraudulent acquisition and disposal of land as it seeks to protect legitimate property owners and uphold the integrity of land records.
