COURT TO RULE ON WHETHER TO DETAIN DCI OFFICER, HUSBAND AND ACCOMPLICES OVER ILLEGAL FIREARMS.

Police have moved to court seeking to detain a senior detective, her husband and two others who were arrested and firearms recovered from their luxury vehicles.

In an application before a Nairobi court, the police wanted to be allowed to detain DCIO Bridget Wanjiru Kamau, her husband Geoffrey Maina Njuguna, together with Lucia Wanjiku Mutunga and Chris Mwangani Musyoka for 14 days, pending conclusion of investigations.

“The continued detention of the Respondents is immensely necessary for the furtherance and finalizing investigations and their release could further lead to interference of ongoing investigations”, the investigating officer told the court.

The court heard that Bridget is a police officer stationed at the coast region and was arrested by Kilimani DCI officers.

The court further heard that the husband, Geoffrey Maina, said he works at the office of the President, but his story has to be verified.

The investigator said it will be appropriate for the officer to liaise with among others Ministry of Interior, the President Delivery Unit, National Police Service-Jogoo house, Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Bankers Association and National Transport and safety authority to ascertain the document in question.

Investigating officers Inspector Hezron Kimutai told the court that Njuguna, Wanjiku and Musyoka have been able to manipulate their way through various deals with the assistance of Bridget who wields power by virtue of her office..

The court also heard that Njuguna has pending cases within Industrial area, Hardy and Kabete police station while his wife Bridget has had run-ins with her former station DCI Parklands about suspicious stolen motor vehicles.

Prosecutor further told the court that the suspect also traveled more than five times within one month.

Court wwill tomorrow morning deliver a ruling on whether the suspects will be detained pending investigations.

The suspects through their lawyers opposed the application for detention saying they were not a flight risk because the couple had a baby who needed their maximum care and attention.

Police revealed that they arrested three people found to be in possession of firearms illegally.

Investigation so far alleges that Musyoka and Wanjiku were driving along the Argwings Khodek and Ring Road junction within Kilimani, when they were intercepted by the Kilimani-based crime busters.

According to police, the detectives who were on routine patrol became suspicious after coming across a black land cruiser V8 motor vehicle with no front number plate, prompting them to immediately flag it down.

Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, detectives managed to recover one Ceska Pistol with its Serial number erased, one Revolver Pistol and an unidentified frontal Plate Number.

Further it was revealed that preliminary investigations revealed that the driver found with the Motor vehicle wasn’t the actual owner.

The vehicle instead belonged to one Jeff Maina, a close friend of his. The suspect spoke to the owner informing him that he had been arrested and had been taken to Kilimani police station.

This prompted the owner to drive into the station shortly afterwards, after which he was arrested and a quick search conducted inside the vehicle he had arrived in a Mercedes Benz. The eagle-eyed sleuths managed to recover two Police Handcuffs, one Ceska Magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one Police Pocket Phone and several Identification Cards from the car.

The suspects were placed in custody pending investigations, while the recovered firearms were handed over to our ballistics experts for examination. Also arrested is a police officer based in Mombasa, who is believed to have given the handcuffs to the suspects.
