Breaking the Law in the Name of God. A Tale of Criminal Greed and Corruption by Lavington United Church

The controversy surrounding the illegal construction of Lavington United Church’s ultra-modern sanctuary takes a new twist with the contractor working around the clock despite residents rushing to court to halt the ongoing multi-million shilling project.

According to court documents filed earlier this month, residents cited irregularities in the plot numbers indicated in the Environmental Impact Assessment license issued by Nema not being the same as the plot number of the project site and in the change of user approval issued by the Nairobi city county. This clearly shows criminal intent on the part of the contractor and the church committee in charge of the project.

Construction is ongoing despite court orders.

A source close to the matter reveals that residents called the police to come and arrest the workers working after hours only to discover that they were released from custody the next day without charge. To add insult to injury we have video evidence showing construction workers toiling away on a Sunday – a day meant for rest and reflection.

Documents in our possession also indicate that the church committee deceitfully falsified the number of floors the sanctuary was going to have in their development application to Nairobi County further fuelling suspicion as to how and why the church is hellbent on cutting corners to realize the project.

As law-abiding Kenyans we must stand up to this corruption and condemn the actions of the contractor and Lavington United Church. We also call on Nema and General Badi to investigate how the building permit was approved given the irregularities cited in the court complaint. Lastly we must name and shame the greedy and corrupt wolves masquerading as God-fearing sheep within the flock at Lavington United Church.

If you are among the faithful at Lavington United Church, it is your moral obligation as a Kenyan and as a Christian to act because Matthew 7:12 says “in everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you”
