Mnakulana: Sex Demand Rises In Nairobi As Sex Workers Confesses A Rise In Clients

While most sex dens we’re closed like Sabina Joy and other entertainment joints, one would ordinarily expect that demand for sex would go down with many sex workers left without stations.

Shock on you, according to a survey done by Nairobi Exposed shows an unlikely trend. According to a number of sec workers we talked to, they’ve reverted to online platforms where they use popular dating apps like tinder, badoo, tagged amongst other dark sites to find their customers.

It seems the quarantine directive has left many thirsty and lonely at home and now resorting to using the dating apps to find hookups for quick, casual sex.

“Things aren’t as bad as they were initially in the first month, right now I can get around 6 customers in a day. I go and service at home.” Mwende*not real name* confided to NE.

With many people left without their spouses, girlfriends locked outside Nairobi, single men in the city are not holding back their rifles. “They’ll call you for alcohol and endless banging. You get free liquor, food and at the end get paid. Good business.” One of the ladies told Nairobi Exposed.

As the government restricts movements and maintains curfews, with bats closed as well, the real business is now in the houses where it’s straight to business.

Sex as it appears, seems to be an essential service, in Mombasa, the sex workers have reached out to the county government to ease up restrictions to allow them back ether business as they’re no longer able to support themselves. We’re told they’ve also lowered their prices to as low as Sh50 for those willing to take the risk.

Talking of risks, we asked one of the ladies if they fear for their lives or whether they’re concerned about contracting coronavirus. “We have bills to pay and can’t continue living in fear, we have mouths to feed, I’m not going to die of hunger at home , I’d rather go out and die. We’ve been through a lot of risks before, it’s part of the business so with or without Covid, life has to go on.”

We sought to find out with the said high demand how much they’re charging, “it all depends with where the customer is, he’ll have to pay for my transport and about Sh2,000 per shot or sometimes higher or lower it depends with a lot but it’s around there. I’ve also charged a client recently Sh10,000 for a shot and I was in his house for the whole weekend. I walked out rich, so I can’t complain.”

As the restrictions continues and the coronavirus cases continues to flare up with no signs of opening the lockdown, such dark events continue to take place in this dirty town.
