Exploitation Of KFC Kenya Workers ‘Staff Treated Like Machines’

A former employee of KFC has come forward to raise concerns about what they describe as harsh and exhausting working conditions faced by many workers at the fast-food chain. 

Speaking anonymously, the former staff member said many employees continue to suffer silently despite the company making huge revenues from its operations.

According to the former worker, one of the biggest challenges employees face is the demanding work schedule. Staff are often required to work long hours with very little time to rest before reporting back for another shift. 

In some cases, employees would finish closing duties late at night and still be expected to return early the following morning. The former worker said this leaves many employees physically exhausted and mentally drained.

They added that the fast-paced nature of the job becomes even more difficult because workers are expected to maintain high performance levels regardless of fatigue. The exhaustion, they claimed, increases the possibility of mistakes and workplace accidents.

The former employee also described management pressure as overwhelming. Workers are reportedly pushed to meet targets even when branches are understaffed and struggling to handle customers. Instead of receiving support during difficult shifts, employees are allegedly blamed or intimidated whenever expectations are not met.

Another issue raised was salary deductions. The former worker claimed that cashiers and other staff members, who already survive on low pay, frequently face deductions that many workers consider unfair. 

Despite this, employees are still expected to remain professional and energetic while serving customers throughout their shifts.

Concerns were also raised about staff welfare. The former employee said breaks are often inadequate while meals provided during shifts are poor and unbalanced. Workers finishing late-night shifts also reportedly face transport and safety challenges, yet little attention is given to their wellbeing once they leave work.

The source further claimed that employee turnover has become very high this year because many workers can no longer handle the mental, physical, and emotional strain caused by the working environment. 

Experienced employees are said to be leaving regularly and are constantly replaced by new workers.

The former worker said employees deserve fair treatment, proper rest, humane schedules, and respect, adding that no one should be forced to sacrifice their health and dignity just to keep operations running.
