Mt Kenya Foundation leaders say they don’t have preferred candidate after meeting Raila, OKA principals

The Mt Kenya Foundation has stated its key consideration in lobbying for a presidential candidate ahead of the 2022 general elections.

During a luncheon with One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals on Thursday, October 7, the Foundation’s chairman Dr Peter Munga said the group will settle on a leader who will take care of its interests.

“We are business people. We are also agriculturalists. We trade with our crops. We trade with anything that is sellable at a profit as long it is okay with the government of the day,” Munga said.

Munga stated that the leader Mt Kenya voters are looking for is one who will let the businessmen and women trade whether it is in Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru and anywhere in the entire country

In his address to the attendants of the luncheon, Munga further called out those politicians referring to the youth as poor and instead asked them to sell the message of hope to the youth of Kenya.

“What the young ones need is to know that there is hope. Do not remind the youth that they are poor. In Mt Kenya, we don’t believe anybody is poor, particularly when he is young,” Munga said.

Mount Kenya Foundation plays a key role in every electioneering period as they help to mobilize funds to support presidential candidates from the region.

On September 25, 2021 the group endorsed the presidential candidature of ODM leader Raila Odinga. It announced that they will be holding series of meetings with prospective presidential candidates in the Uhuru succession politics before settling on their preferred candidate.

Inside sources have divulged to People Daily Digital that the tycoons will not meet Deputy President William Ruto, who is also eyeing the top seat in 2022. The group will end their series of engagements with the OKA coalition before sending their resolution to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
