How Nyamira MCAs were bribed to clear deputy Governor Gesami

Former West Mugirango MP James Gesami who had been rejected by Nyamira county assembly as a nominee for the position of the deputy governor was finally cleared by the same assembly paving way for his appointment to the position after a five-month struggle in courts, which were blocking his nomination. It is emerging, the MCAs were bribed to clear Gesami and the move to block him saw them receive money from aspirants eyeing governorship in 2022 but against Gesami.

James GesamiThe sponsors, after spending the money, decided to go under leaving the MCAs to demand money from the deputy governor. The appointment committee through the leader of the majority Duke Masira presented the name before the house and it was unanimously passed by the 36 MCAs without any objection. Speaker Moffat Teya declared: “As the speaker of the county assembly, I declare the approval of James Gesami as the deputy governor Nyamira nominee.”

Duke MasiraAppointment committee chairman Masira, who is also the Nyamira Township ward MCA moved a procedural motion that was seconded by minority leader and Nyansiongo MCA Dennis Kebaso. Gesami’s approval comes after the High Court dismissed a case that was filed barring his nomination and approval as deputy governor last month. Minority leader Kebaso said the nominee has all that is required to hold the position of deputy governor with his long time experience he has in several disciplines.

Moffat TeyaMajority leader, who read the appointments committee recommendations said the committee considered everything that was availed to the committee, the nominee experience in various disciplines and his qualities and hence the committee approved Gesami for appointment as deputy governor. Ekerenyo ward MCA Thaddeus Nyabaro said the MCAs have no option other than to support Gesami’s approval since he has everything that is needed for him to be deputy governor.

Dennis KebasoNyamaiya ward MCA Raban Masira said the focus now should be shifted to development because the decision that has been reached by the MCAs will give a way forward to the county in terms of service delivery. Gesima MCA Charles Maroko said with the approval of DG nominee, there will not be an excuse as to why services will not be rendered to the residents. However, investigations carried by Weekly Citizen established the move to have Gesami nomination by Governor Amos Nyaribo was politically motivated and financed by a politician from the county who has declared his candidature for the seat of the governor come 2022 general election.

Thaddeaus NyabaroThe politician had managed to compromise 21 MCAs out of 36 who always carried the day in the house thus leading to the rejection of the name. It was further revealed that the county executive committee members who Nyaribo sacked after taking over leadership following the death of governor John Nyagarama also used proxies to file cases in court to block the nomination of Gesami as one way of frustrating the governor over what they termed as a revenge mission. However, other leaders led by Senator Okongo Omogeni condemned the move by the MCAs which he said was punishing the people of Nyamira by not getting development because of such political fights.
