How Somali Tycoon Bribed Land Officials To Grab Shariff Nassir Family Land

The family of the late Mombasa politician Shariff Nassir are embroiled in court battles over land, fifteen years after the demise of their father, a veteran politician who grabbed money, power and land during the Moi era.

Aisha Taib, the younger sister of the late politician in her supplementary affidavit wants the High Court to revoke a title deed held by people who fraudulently bought her father’s grabbed land in Sparki area of Mvita.

The once powerful political family together with a Mombasa based land activist, one Joseph Mukewa are accusing rogue officers at the Ministry of lands of colluding with phony businessmen to transfer title deed number 795 for the 0.025-acre land to Abdullai Hassan Farah.

Abdullai Farah is a corrupt businessman of Somali origin who fraudulently acquired the land, demolished property and threw out poor Kenyans who had leased it.

The fraudster is bullying Kenyans under the watch of the area MP Abdulswamad Nassir who is a groupie to the outgoing socialite governor of Mombasa.

Political pundits believe that coward Hon. Nassir is avoiding the issue since it may dent his ambitions of becoming the next governor of Mombasa. His late father looted a lot that can be revisited if he publicly engages in the current issue.

The land that his father grabbed when they abused power around the late ex-president Daniel Moi has in turn been grabbed by a rogue and wealthier Somali businessman.

Mr Mukewa who also leads Coast Legal Aid and Resource Foundation has gone to court questioning the manner in which the disputed land was acquired by Farah.

The activist has lined up witnesses including the current Mvita MP who is the son of Nassirand his two aunties to testify against the businessman.

Authentic documents at the land registry in Mombasa still recognise the late politician and his two sisters, Aisha Taib and Miriam Taib, rubbishing a sale agreement of October 14 2010 which has five individuals as the owners of the plot.

Mukewa said that the purported owners that include Jamal Mbarak, Warida Jamal, Abdulmajid Jamal Mbarak, Jamal Jamal Mbarak and Mbarak Ahmed are fake.

The names of the five are not appearing even in the green book at the Mombasa Land Registry.

Farah is a renown and highly connected fraudulent businessman who worked with land cartels, corrupt officers at the Ministry of land to fraudulently acquire the prime plot from the sleeping Nassir’s family.

A questionable letter dated December 20, 2010 shows that the late Nassir and his two sisters approved the transfer of the land to Warida Jamal Mbarak who later sold it to the corrupt Farah.

But in another petition filed on 25th October 2020, Mukewa asked how it was possible for the late Nassir to approve the transfer in 2010 when he died in 2005.

The former Mvita MP died on November 27, 2005, and his family was issued with a death certificate No BNO737/35 with entry No 25601576.

He left Aisha as the administrator of the property who has also denied ever approving the transfer of the land as she termed the transfer documents held by Farah as fake and fraudulently obtained.

Aisha who reported the fraud on August 14, 2018, at the Central Police Station also told the investigating authorities that ‘her signature’ appended on the transfer agreement was forged.

Rogue Farah also used a fake a National ID card No. 0669270 as Nassir’s to approve the fraudulent sale.

One of the land officers who orchestrated the illegal transfer of the land to Warida Jamal and Abdullai Hassan Farah fainted after being shocked with a copy of the petition to appear in court over the offence.

But the carefree Abdullai Farah has now resorted to sending threats on residents to vacate his land.

He took war with Sparki residents Famau Amani, Rashid Tewa, Abdalla Majid, Ahmed Mohamed Mzalendo and Salim Mzee in 2014 when he sued them over what he called ‘encroachment’.

Farah was granted a court injunction directing the five accused to vacate the land but that order was later appealed against and the five were allowed to stay since the late Nassir had leased them the plot to develop.
