Migori residents want their MCAs to streamline the operations of the county government. Currently, the county is experiencing serious problems and can no longer solve financial obligations. Confusion over leadership has continued to persist and corrupt elements have ganged up to block attempts by deputy governor Nelson Mwita to act and ensure efficiency in service delivery.
Embattled Governor Okoth Obado is currently facing corruption cases in court and was barred from accessing his office. It is not clear how long it will take to determine the corruption charges the governor is facing. Residents have raised complaints about intruders meddling in having the deputy governor take over the county operations as corrupt elements in the county government are colluding with cartels to block those they fear will expose their fraudulent deals. Attempts to have the deputy ensure quality service delivery in the county is dwindling as the same corrupt elements are allegedly using hired goons to scare away Obado critics.
Since Governor Obado was arrested the second time, his allies should have allowed his deputy to take over instead of taking a hardline stance and inciting residents to reject and block him. Obado has been misled to transfer the running of some departments from the county headquarters to his rural home in Rapogi and he continues to mess up resources meant for public utility. His allies are allegedly intimidating progressive leaders not to talk about fraud.
