The recent appointment of Joseph Rading to Siaya public service board has generated mixed reactions amidst calls for his sacking on integrity grounds. Rading is part of the team that was last year summoned at the District Criminal Investigations headquarters on Murang’a Road to record a statement over alleged embezzlement of Sh2 billion at the Homa Bay county government. Also reportedly grilled is the Homa Bay county secretary Isaiah Ogwe among other officials from the county government. Rading unsuccessfully ventured into politics and trailed a distance behind during the hotly contested 2017 ODM nominations for Gem constituency.
He is widely remembered for how he perfected the art of posing for photos with ODM leader Raila Odinga and using the same rally voters behind his political ambitions. However, his possible involvement in the outrageous theft at the Homa Bay county government went silent until he assumed the new position at the Siaya county assembly when reports emerged that a section of irked locals is planning to launch a legal war against his appointment to the public service board. Those agitating for his sacking have faulted area governor Cornel Rasanga, over his failure to adhere to the values of integrity when he nominated Rading to the county public service board despite the fact he was yet to clear his name in the Homa Bay saga. There were hopes that those mentioned in Homa Bay theft would be arraigned before the end of January this year but the matter went silent until in the recent past weeks when it erupted again. Interestingly, for the few months Rading has served at the Siaya county public service board, there has been an uproar over his style of operation said to be driven by pure greed for money and nepotism.
Sources told Weekly Citizen that he has joined the team of those angling for heavy bribes and kickbacks apart from ensuring that his own son has been employed at the county government. It is alleged that Rasanga himself has never been comfortable with the controversial Rading but picked him as a compromise candidate to deflate the politics of regional balancing in the county. In the meantime, the EACC and the asset recovery unit could be interested in the building dubbed as Rading Plaza, suspected to be part of the proceeds of stolen money from the Homa Bay county government. Efforts to reach Rading who fashions himself as the managing director of the building at Sawagongo in Gem constituency equally proved fruitless.
