Aircraft Engineer Who Couldn’t Raise Sh885,000 To Offset Karen Hotel Bill, Charged And Released On Sh300,000 Cash Bail

An aircraft engineer who took his family to a holiday at a city hotel and accrued Sh885,000 in 63 days was charged with obtaining credit by false pretence.

Moses Aluchura Adagala is accused of holidaying at the Stanjo Karen Suites between June 19 and August 25 and failing to pay for the services.

The aeronautical engineer is also facing a charge of issuing a bad cheque where he is accused of issuing a Stanbic bank cheque to the hotel on July 15 “with the knowledge that the account on which the cheque was drawn had insufficient funds”.

Adagala moved into the hotel located in Lang’ata sub-county with his wife and three children and occupied four rooms charged at Sh15,000 per day.

Left for Somalia

But he only paid Sh50,000 as he checked in. At some point, he left for Somalia where he had a brief contract in which he was to be paid close to Sh600,000,. He thereaftre returned to await payment.

After the hotel demanded payment after one month, he drew them a Sh455,000 cheque on July 15, which was dishonoured by his bank because his account had insufficient funds.

The same sired a charge of issuing but Aluchura denied both charges. He claimed, through a lawyer, that he had issued a post-dated cheque expecting payments before the cheque matured.

The hotel moved him and all his children into a single room where they were detained for non-payment and stopped accruing the debt. The hotel also detained his car.

Adagala claimed that the hotel intends to auction the car to cover the debt.

He was freed on a Sh500,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000. The hearing of the case starts on October 27.
