Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula has been ousted as Ford Kenya party leader.
The Party’s National Executive Council resolved to dismiss Wetangula on grounds of gross misconduct.
Addressing the press today, after the delegates meeting, the party’s Secretary-General Eseli Simuyi said the party had lost its ideals under Wetangula’s leadership.
The removal of the party leader was witnessed by Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wamangati who said the decision was informed by the need to better position the party.
The move is also part of a realignment with Ford Kenya setting its sights on the 2022 political showdown.
Wetangula has been replaced by Wafula Wanyonyi as the interim party leader.
Also removed was the party Organising Secretary Chris Mandu Mandu.
In a chaotic meeting, allies of Wetangula stormed the venue at one point during the morning hours.
Allegations against Moses Wetangula
The allegations of involvement in a gold scam that surfaced about Wetangula in 2019 were also cited by those behind his ouster.
Moses Wetangula is also accused of, among other things, failing to inspire leadership, failing to unite the party, and undertaking actions contrary to the party’s aspirations by interfering in past election nominations.
