Coronavirus: Isiolo Governor Dr. Mohammed Kuti Busted For ‘Launching’ Fake ICU Beds He Hired From A Private Hospital

Covid-19 has exposed the underbelly of the leaderships in Kenya, those who’ve been sleeping at work are suddenly waking up and running around like headless chicken.

With an exposed system and devolved functions of the government, county bosses are burning the oil through the night to be seen be working even though they had all the time to improve public healthcare but instead prioritized their own interests to grow even bigger tummies with irrelevant projects.

If you look around now, you’ll notice they’re launching anything and everything and with full camera crew to capture and paint them as the best thing on earth after buttered toast.

Sone are honestly working and done are cheekily masquerading. Kericho Governor Prof. Chepkwony was recently busted by one other than the US for relaunching a KEMRI testing plant that was initiated and funded by the US way back in January. He cleverly wanted it to pass as his own project and obviously for political scoring.

Launching of projects related to coronavirus has now turned into a penis length contest amongst many governors who strive to outdo each other and thanks to Mombasa CEO Joho who has cut a clear shot above them all. Sonko is also doing his thing with his camera crew.

So Dr. Kuti jumped on the train to ‘launch’ a six-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a High Dependency Unit (HDU) with seven beds at the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital. This later turned out to be a bluff and just a pomp show.

According to photos that we’ve obtained from concerned citizens, the governor apparently hired the facilities from Galaxy Hospital, a private entity owned by a local politician. It appears now that it was all for a show which went incredibly well, took photos, splashed them everywhere and later after the ‘launch’ returned them to the Galaxy Hospital.

The fake launch being broadcasted.

After the ‘launch’ and the cameras switched off, it was back to reality.

Medical Equipments taken to the Isiolo Referral Hospital.

Sine of county officials attempted to call out the expose as propaganda but people in Isiolo are saying otherwise.

It’s such a shame Dr.Kuti who’s a professional surgeon and who has been in politics since 2003 and served in the cabinet in several capacities to engage in such low class populist politics. What’s the need of giving people hopes of non existent equipment? Can the Governor give a proof that there’s ICU beds right now at the referral hospital? When the residents will need the services will the county pay for it to the Galaxy Hospital where they’re?

Kuti is the health committee chair at the Council of Governors and has been closely working with the Ministry of Health ever since Kenya reported its first case on March 13.

Kuti was also on the spot over a Sh110M saga of building his home the speaker’s despite the county being one of the poorest in the country. Ironic that the governor who sits with the CS calling out misinformation on coronavirus now finds himself in the same bracket.

The Governor was also put on limelight when he appeared before a parliamentary committee to answer on audit queries. He had signed a controversial Sh433 million deal with a foreign firm(Living good) to manage healthcare in the county.

The deal would have seen the firm take charge of three sub-county hospitals for four years before it was stopped by Senate and Treasury.
