Simon Kabu’s Estranged Wife Sarah Mtalii Opens Up On Her Relationship With Her Lawyer

Sarah Njoki Nyaga is not one to shy away from the spotlight. Whether in business or personal life, she has embraced her newfound independence with confidence and determination.

In December 2024, Sarah and her estranged husband Simon Kabu’s troubled marriage became the subject of public scrutiny, culminating in an online dispute that revealed the cracks in their relationship. This drama eventually led to their official separation, leaving many of their followers in shock.

Months later, Sarah has rebranded herself as Sarah Mtalii, launching a new travel and tour business alongside her Virtuous Women Foundation, an organisation dedicated to advocating for women’s rights and empowerment.

However, it is her close association with renowned advocate Mwenda Njagi that has truly captured public attention. Sarah frequently features Njagi in both her personal and professional activities, which has sparked widespread speculation.

The buzz intensified following their trips to Malaysia and the Middle East, with Sarah sharing images and videos of what she described as the “best time of her life.” One particular photo—showing her enjoying the breeze with Njagi on a stunning coastline—was accompanied by a heartfelt message acknowledging him as her pillar of strength.

Support System

“Do you have a good support system in your life? Don’t forget to appreciate them for the good work they do to keep you strong. As we end our Far East and Middle East tour,” Sarah posted.

“I just want to take this opportunity to give Mwenda Njagi and his team their flowers. You guys are the best. You are the reason I’m standing and smiling here in Abu Dhabi, still sober and energetic,” she added.

In an interview with The Nairobian, Sarah revealed that it was Njagi who attempted to save her marriage through mediation just before it completely fell apart. She also mentioned that prior to meeting him, other lawyers had been swindling her, mostly in family and business-related matters.

“I’ve known him for over four years now. We share an office block along Kiambu Road, and when I started sharing my problems, I realised he was a straightforward man. That’s how our relationship began,” she explained.

She further mentioned, “At some point, I decided to transfer all my business to him from other lawyers,” adding that she wanted to publicly appreciate Njagi for the good work he has done.

Their recent trip abroad occurred around Valentine’s Day, but Sarah says they had two purposes: to receive awards in recognition of their work.

“Along the way, we’ve been uplifting each other professionally, and sometime last year, we encouraged each other to try our luck at a global award,” she shared.

As it turned out, Mwenda Njagi received the Global Changemakers Project 100 Award as the most outstanding mediator in Kenya on February 15.

The award recognises individuals who make significant contributions to social change through leadership and innovation. It honours those who resolve conflicts and lay the foundations for long-term peace and stability.

Njagi’s work, includes mediating in high-stakes negotiations, organisational disputes, and grassroots peace initiatives.“This award is not just about me; it is a reflection of the collective efforts of communities and individuals committed to peace,” he noted after being recognised.

Meanwhile, Sarah, through her Virtuous Women Foundation, was awarded the Best Women’s Advocacy and Empowerment Award.

“We had two goals for the trip, and he also wanted to travel to that part of the world. I was happy to be his guide, having travelled to those areas before,” Sarah explained.

“He is my pillar of strength. He is my support system, and being single, I need a man for some things. In the time I’ve known him, he has helped me a lot,” she confessed.

Second Chance

Sarah revealed that Njagi had given her a second chance in life, acting as her protector, leader, and advisor.

“When I ran to him, he became my saviour. I let him fight for me, and that’s why I was happy to go on the trip with him—not only for business but also as a reward. He has given me a chance in life,” she said.

Sarah also expressed regret over her past relationship, stating that she trusted and loved too much. “There are people who say Njagi and I look good together. Those are their thoughts, and maybe I’ll consider that,” she added.

On his part, Njagi explained that he met Sarah three years ago while leaving his office late at night.

“I found her on the stairs, crying. I thought she was just a tenant, but I never knew she was a celebrity. I asked her why she was crying, and she opened up about her challenges,” he said.

Njagi advised her not to rush into a divorce and instead consider mediation, which ultimately allowed her to retain control over her properties.

Asked about the speculations regarding their relationship, Njagi said his focus is on helping Sarah become a brand and ultimately get into Forbes Africa’s list of influential women.

“Everyone has their own opinions, but my eyes are on the prize. My goal is to ensure that Sarah Mtalii makes it onto Forbes Africa soon. When the right time comes, we’ll call you,” he stated.

With 11 years of legal and mediation practice, Njagi has handled a variety of cases, from civil to commercial disputes.

Reflecting on his journey, he said his experience has reinforced his belief that peaceful resolutions are possible when people are willing to listen and engage constructively.

He added that the recognition motivates him to continue promoting peace and mediation in Kenya and beyond.
