NGO Implicates Sakaja In Dishi Na County Sh144M Scam

A non-profit organization involved with the Nairobi school feeding program, Dishi Na County, has announced plans to draft a statement with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) implicating Governor Johnson Sakaja in a financial scandal, reports indicate.

According to reports, the organization alleges that a relative of Governor Sakaja, who sits on the board of the NGO, might have been instrumental in the misappropriation of funds.

This allegation adds another layer of mystery to the already troubled administration of Governor Sakaja, which is currently under scrutiny for failing to account for Sh 144 million donated by the French government, something he vehemently denied and tried to implicate the NGO.

The Dishi Na County program, initiated in October 2023, has faced significant challenges in its implementation, including the lack of regulatory frameworks and transparency in the handling of funds.

Susan Silantoi, the County Executive Committee (CEC) for Health, acknowledged to the Nairobi County Assembly Health Committee that the county has yet to establish regulations for the management of the Dishi Na County funds, complicating the oversight and proper allocation of the donated money.

Further complicating matters, the program’s Chief Executive Officer, Wawira Nyambura, disclosed that while the NGO receives daily contributions from various sources, detailed financial disclosures have been limited to the amount received specifically from the French government, earmarked for 25,000 children in Nairobi. The program’s reliance on technology for fund distribution and the absence of comprehensive regulatory approval raises questions about the transparency and efficiency of fund allocation.

This unfolding scandal places Governor Sakaja’s administration under intense scrutiny, with potential legal implications if the EACC investigation substantiates the NGO’s claims.
