Police Sources Reveal The Dirty Deals The Man 6 Times In Mirema Was Engaged In

Confidential police sources have revealed that the man who was shot dead in gangland fashion at Mirema Drive Estate, Nairobi, on Monday afternoon was head of a criminal cartel involved in stupefying revellers in clubs.

Samuel Mugo Mugota, 49, was killed on Monday at around 4pm. He was driving in a gold-toned Honda CRV when a lone gun man who had just disembarked from a getaway Toyota Corolla Axio emptied his magazine on him.

Mugota had reportedly dropped off his daughter home from school. CCTV footage showed the gunman dashing back to the getaway Axio and hurriedly driving away. Mugota died on the spot.

“The man headed a big syndicate that mostly involved women, who would be used to spike revellers’ drinks before stealing from the customers,” an officer who sought anonymity is quoted by ‘People Daily’ as saying.

Nicknamed ‘Keupe’, Mugota reportedly had several run-ins with the law. Sources say he had been arrested on numerous occasions by DCI officers, and had several pending court cases.

Stupefying of revellers in clubs is rampant in Kenya, mostly Nairobi, “the city of sin.” The criminals spike revellers’ drinks with life-threatening drugs (mchele) and proceed to rob them. Some people have had their mobile money and bank accounts wiped clean. Some have even lost their lives.

The newspaper quotes police sources as alleging that ‘Keupe’, who hailed from Embu county, was also involved in SIM swapping and ‘wash wash’.

Kasarani Sub-County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said they are interrogating two people to establish the identity of the shooter and motive.
