Str8up live show on Saturdays is oftenly an outdoor affair,they will set up from a school or any other institution matching with the theme. Yesterday(Saturday) the crew were invited to the university of Nairobi with invitation from the school of journalism to air the show live from its school compound.
The event was organised by school of journalism representative (Mike Kuria) who is currently on academic trip mombasa,at around 9.30 am before it begun some students by the name of goons stormed the venue and demanded to be managed(given money) as it is the norm at this great university(UON). The graduation square was the crime scene, tension built with the arrival of goons in the company of a few Student Leaders the Vice chair and entertainment secretary(SONU) with their PDF(prefabs defence forces) wing. They paralysed everything which was ongoing and disconnected cameras and crew machines demanding to be given 30k from KTN for the event to take place. They went viral upto roughing up journalist(lady) claiming she was taking pictures. The students who were in the event disappointedly and bitterly walked away to their hostels after an intended entertainment was cancelled by a few students who masquerade in the tag name well known in campus goons.
According to sources,the payment is referred to as “kuwekwa security” and the said students body demands a portion of the money in this case ksh.30k. The KTN crew weren’t amused by the developments. One of the hooligans was overheard saying “toeni hizi vitu hapa sma tutaita wasee WA rugby wakuje wazibebe wapeleke hostel”(vacate these equipments or else we call the rugby players to come and carry them to the hostels) Part of the crew which included DJ Kaytrixx,Ian Mugoya swiftly and quickly bundled their equipments out of the venue. The show which was meant to be a live event failed to be so and was put on halt.
