Gone are the days when you trust anybody and especially in the streets of Nairobi,the last thing you wanna do is trust a stranger in the streets. As time changes so do the conmen sharpen their knives and up their tricks as old ones gets exposed and loopholes sealed. It has been brought to our notice of a new trick of local conmen colluding with their foreigners counterparts in the country. This new breed of conmen largely target those working in the NGO,church officials and any worthy and vulnerable group they opt to target.
According to information sought and received by Nairobi Exposed from affected victims,we can reveal how the whole game is played out. There is always that Guy named Mike,he “works” at the UNDP and has a vast connection with investors from all over the world. Mike is the connecting factor in the game,he will approach say a church leader,we are using a church leader who is a victim and a study case we have,he will approach you with a good irresistible deal. He always asks uf you have any registered charitable organization like an orphanage essence of this is to make it easier to approach the investors with a good proposal to make it easier to convince them to invest in your project. Mike will give you time to keep your house in order,leaves you his contacts to contact him later. We areliving in a society of greed and everybody needs money if opportunity presents itself to make extra shillings,you jump on the ship without second thought.
But before he lives he will give you the juicy parts of the deal that makes it catchy and irresistible,apparently Mike has an investor from country Z,he will be visiting the country during this time(usually in a months time) and during his visit he would like to invest on a charitable organization,conditions being that it must be registered(this is to usually convince the target the legitimacy by making it look serious) if the conditions are met,he will make huge investments(six figures) into the organization. With such a mouth watering deal and in the society we live in,it always gets a green light. After two Weeks you’ll get a call from Mike telling you that the “investor” will be flying in the following week contrary to previous plans that it would be in a months time. He advices that you get all your documents ready and ready forthe meeting with the investor.
First forward to the “meeting with the investor” day,you get on your best dress mode,sharpen your your oratory skills and set to talk the millions off his pockets. Their preferred place of meeting is the famous Ambassador Hotel and here Mike will inform you through phone call that you will meet the “investor” at the entrance as him,Mike is stuck in the traffic but driving to town,the “investor” doesn’t own a phone apparently. He will give you his description perfectly. True to his words when you get to the ambassador entrance you will see the “investor” seated by the waiting lounge,he is usually an old grey haired man,after a moment of recognition and familiarization you both go upstairs to the hotel and ring ring the game is getting started,he will introduce himself as a pastor from country Z and even give you his ministry’s website for you to check out his work,this will look legit because a fully developed website is up for the part of the game. His name keeps varying but for thisparticular case his name us Johnson,he will ask about your organization as to show interest in it,then he unleashesthe dragon,his money amounting to (usually above a hundred million) has been detained bu airports authorities in his home country as he was flying in and they demanded this amount of money to release the money which is in cargo and solid cash,he will say he needs ksh.300k to facilitate the release of the bag full of cash. As you get you mind blown by the big dreams,Mike who was stuck in the traffic walks in,dressed smartly to the executive standards and holding car keys,usually a Mercedes. He joins in the conversation and introduces a totally new vector. Johnson*investor* now wants both both of you three to team up and start a business but since he lacks travel documents it would be you and Mike having your names on the business documents,wow,a multi million dollar business from the blues huh the gods must be good on you huh,well before you get to excited he will introduce yet another scenario,Since Johnson lavk right travel documents,he can’t check into a tourist hotel as he risked getting caught so you both need to check him in an exclusive hotel he stays there till the millions gets in,meanwhile he instructs you to research for an apartment for Johnson to live in,he prefers Kileleshwa. That said you both will have to contribute towards Johnson’s stay atleast till the millions checks in,again a reminder,Johnson doesn’t have any cash with him yet.
Back to the “money releasing fee” of ksh.300k you two will have to contribute equally so as to enable the millions to check in,the deal seems so good and this is the reason they target pastors,there is always some money in the bank,so the pastor and Mike agrees to pay half the amount each,in the cases one is unable to raise the amount,Mike with his “big UNDP” job will give a waiver and agree to pay the major portion. You both agree on the day to meet and contribute the cash for courier service to transfer the millions in,wow you feel like a millionaire already. The deal is done and Mike hurriedly leaves with excuse that he has an urgent meeting with some other foreigners. You are left with Johnson and at this point he unleashes yet another stunt,he doesn’t own a phone but suggests you buy him a kabambe and buy him a line as well to keep in touch,also remember his accommodation expenses you had agreed on? With millions in your mind,spending a few thousands to sort out your “millions” source ain’t such a bad idea. You buy,give him accommodation money and you part ways,surprisingly,he knows his ways around town despite being a foreigner who is just a few days old in town,but despite all these loopholes,you can’t see as the millions seem to have blinded you. On the agreed date you get your cash ready and off to meet with Mike. Now here there is yet another twist,you are to take the cash to the “courier agent” at the airport and him(Mike) offers his car to drive you both to the airport and clear the bills. Not knowing you are getting into trouble you agree to get on board. Along the way as you drive to the “airport” he will.ask for the money so that you count and br sure to avoid any mishap at the courier offices. The money is now off your hands and this when he unleashes the last bullet,you get dragged by an inhalant or whichever way they administer him is unknown and you become unconscious after sometimes,half dead. You will wake up in an hospital not knowing how,no trace of Mike or Johnson all their numbers off,you were dragged and taken to the hospital by a good samaritan(Mike)after being found dumped by the roadside. You are left empty with nothing but shock and the only thing that’s on is the regrets and I wish I knew,the reality of you having been a con victim checks in instead of the millions.
And for the conmen it’s on to the next one,the use of a white man is pretty obvious,nobody expects them to be conmen and they are philanthropists making the investments idea ideal,and the fact that people tend to trust the whites more,lies the advantage and that’s the open loophole,after all its the little loophole that they need. We hope this article seals that loophole and nobody falls a victim.
