USIU is one of the biggest private universities in Kenya,where there are people from different masses,there is always the queers who never miss. NE received a lead on how a major scam is going on at the pharmacy department of the school,talked to various witnesses whom shall remain anonymous due to security reasons.
All goes around the USIU
dispensary by some of the employed staff and the HR, finance manager, who are also in the syndicate who are taking advantage of ineffective administration and intimidating part time workers of the university,they are accused for endangering students and staff by not giving the appropriate medicines in the name of saving but only to find their way into local chemist and some people pocket the money.
Collaborating with drug company suppliers to inflate prices to embezzle the university.
They collaborate with workers to write medical claims to defraud the university large amounts which later they share. It’s emerging that for Employment unless you are in the syndicate and you don’t get concern of their underground dealings and ready to bribe even if you are underqualified as long as u can bribe you will get the job
It starts with selling of dispensary’s medicines which has become routine to some staff of the dispensary The nurse at the pharmacy is called Evans and daily he balances the drugs on the shelves and selects and takes the original drugs which are expensive to sell them to outsiders where he has been given an order to earn a living. Witness close to him reveals to NE that He is used to carrying A bag where he packs the medicines to be taken by the wife or another person he calls to take them
He is untouchable because he claims permanently employed at USIU and cannot be asked by his senior who knows what happens on the ground that he threatens to expose his underground deals of procurements
He limits the issuing of the drugs to students and staff who deserve them only to sell them to chemists.
The one in charge a clinical officer called Jack collaborates with the supplying companies to inflate the prices and because nobody oversee the purchases they collude with the procurement and finance department to share the profits. Example if a drug costs sh.100 they inflate up to sh.800 and order large quantities and share the profits.
To get employment there you must be in the syndicate and must bribe the people who conduct the interview and the HR. As along as you can bribe even if you are more than qualified compared to other candidates who did the interview. Citing an example of a diploma nurse who was employed recently leaving out a degree candidate due to an inside job of corrupting the concerned parties
The employed staff intimidate the part time workers through cheap propaganda to chase them away and bring the once they want to protect their interest The same staff are involved in creating fake medical forms for the university to pay them and share the money, a long chain involving the finance department
They have made the university a cash cow due to along chain of collaboration among the employed staff
