Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama nearly engaged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in a fight following Musyoka’s comments on Agnes Kavindu who is Muthama’s ex-wife.
The melee happened on Wednesday during the burial of the Machakos Regional Presiding Bishop of AIC Bernard Nguyu in Machakos county at a place called Mitaboni.
Since Kibwana and Muthama ditched Kalonzo’s wiper party, the three leaders have not shared a platform for long and this rare gathering brought them together. Other leaders who attended this burial were Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, a number of members of parliament from the region and many other leaders from the country.
Agnes Kavindu was given a ticket by Stephen Kalonzo led wiper party in the looming Machakos senatorial by-election which will happen on 18th of March. On the other side, Muthama is acting as the interim chairman of the newly formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) that equally has a candidate in Machakos.
Agnes Kavindu and Kalonzo Musyoka arrived at the ceremony towards its end at a time when Muthama was giving his speech.
The former Machakos senator castigated the national government for its move to grant the members of the county assembly 2 million car grants, terming it bribery in a bid to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill.
On his side, Kalonzo who made the last address ridiculed Muthama by saying that he “will return Muthama’s wife” after the 2022 general election.
“I am telling you that next year, you will see Muthama running to perch on my chest, because he knows where we are and where we are going. Even if he gets irritated, I’ll hand over his wife (Kavindu) back to him,” Kalonzo said.
It seems those sentiments did not go well with Muthama who immediately rose from his seat and headed straight to the podium where Kalonzo was speaking. The two would have literally fought were it not for the intervention of the leaders who were present.
