SAFARICOM Subscribers Experience A Network Fall Out Tuesday Night

Last night Safaricom subscribers countrywide experienced a fall out in network connections and couldn’t make calls nor send or receive texts. This happened between 11:00pm to about 11:40pm when services were restored on part of the affected.

Though no official communication from the safaricom has been released as of yet but this comes at a time when the company’s CEO Bob Collymore earlier in the day of Tuesday recorded a statement with the CID following allegations that the Westgate attackers were able to use unregistered simcards.

This is in contrary with communication policies in Kenya which requires all simcards to be registered to help in curbing unlawful acts such as terrorism.

Speculations have it that the CEOs of the telecommunication companies majorly Safaricom,YU,Orange and Airtel had been threatened with a sh.50,000 fine on any functional unregistered simcards apart from the CEOs fine and possible jail time.

It is this factor that could easily be attributed to the lockdown. Its said that Safaricom had shutdown all registered lines then on again to filter out the unregistered ones.

Services have since been restored but those who didn’t have their lines fully registered have been locked out from accessing the services.
