Mombasa Governor Joho Budgets To Spend Sh83M To Construct His Official Residence

Mombasa County Government, led by Governor Hassan Joho, plans to spend Sh83 million in the 2020/21 financial year to construct the governor’s and deputy governor’s residences.

The one-year project will be undertaken at Mwakirunge ward, Kisauni, at a cost of Sh50 million to enable “efficiency on delivery of service”.

About Sh33 million will be spent in the construction of Deputy Governor’s residence at Tudor area, in Mvita ward.

Details of the project are contained in the 2020/21 financial year budget proposals.

Already some MCAS have raised objections to the proposals. One ward rep, who sought anonymity, asked his colleagues to reject the budget when it is tabled in the Assembly.

The Commission for Human Rights and Justice executive director Julius Ogogoh warned that they will go to court to stop the construction if the budget is not reviewed downwards.

He is of the opinion that this year’s budget should focus on the economy recovery plan and not “misplaced priorities”.
