Man Wants Ruto To Pay Him Sh70M For Stealing His ‘Bottom-Up’ Economic Model

A Nairobi businessman who claims to be the originator of Deputy President William Ruto’s “Bottom-Up” economic model now seeks to be paid over Sh70 million as compensation claiming infringement on intellectual property rights.

In court documents, Jacob Kioko, wants Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA)  to pay him Sh70 million as compensation for using the economic plan which he claims to be his idea.

Kioko, a marketer, says the Bottom-Up economic model is his innovation and intellectual property, having registered it as a patent in March 2010 and issued with a certificate three years later.

He is also seeking to be compensated for the use of his intellectual property by other parties without his consent.

Temporary order

At the same time, the businessman has petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene on his behalf.

In his application filed in the High Court, Kioko claims he owns the copyright of the economic model.

He wants the court to issue a temporary order stopping UDA from using the economic plan in their countrywide campaigns until the matter before court is heard and determined.
