Former KeRRA Boss Philemon Kandie Arrested in Night EACC Operation

Former Kenya Rural Roads Authority Director General Philemon Kandie has been arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over claims of graft and poor financial management during his time in office.

The arrest happened during a night operation at his home on Friday, October 3. After being taken into custody, Kandie was escorted to the Integrity Centre in Nairobi for questioning.

During the raid, EACC officers confiscated several electronic devices and documents believed to be important to the investigation.

The commission has not yet released full details about the case, but initial information suggests the probe is linked to suspected corruption while he served as KeRRA boss.

Kandie resigned from his position on July 11, 2025, even though he still had two years left in his term. At the time, he did not explain the reasons for his sudden exit.

His resignation came shortly after a High Court petition was filed, accusing him of funding the June protests through alleged shell companies.

The claims raised public concern and increased pressure on his leadership.

Following his departure, Jackson Magondu was appointed to take over the role in an acting capacity as investigations and legal processes continued.

The arrest marks a major step in the ongoing inquiry, as authorities seek to establish whether public funds were misused during Kandie’s leadership at the roads agency.
