Luo “Sharp Boy” Vanishes, Leaves Woman Holding Sh10,000 Nairobi Hotel Bill

A Nairobi woman’s Sunday evening meetup with a man she knew through Facebook took an embarrassing and expensive turn after he allegedly disappeared from a city rooftop lounge, leaving her stuck with a bill of more than Sh10,000.

The drama unfolded after popular social media personality Juliette Awata shared her ordeal online, claiming a man identified as Allan Ochieng invited her out for drinks at a rooftop venue in Nairobi’s Sarit Centre area.

According to Awata, the two had interacted online for some time, with the man regularly engaging with her posts. After reviewing his profile and seeing what appeared to be a normal social media presence complete with photos and mutual connections, she agreed to meet him.

What followed, she says, seemed like a typical first date.

The man reportedly ordered cocktails and cheese fries, showered her with compliments and engaged in light conversation as they settled into the evening.

But midway through the date, the mood changed.

Awata claims her companion excused himself after receiving a phone call. A few minutes later he returned, sat down briefly, then stepped away again to allegedly take another call.

This time, he never came back.

Initially, she assumed he was dealing with something urgent. However, as the minutes stretched on and his phone became unreachable, suspicion began to creep in.

The real shock came when she called a waitress to inquire whether the bill had already been settled.

According to her account, not only had the man failed to clear the tab, but he had allegedly not paid for any of the drinks and food consumed during the evening.

The bill had reportedly climbed to about Sh10,000.

Awata says hotel staff temporarily detained her as they sought clarification on who would settle the outstanding amount.

Eventually, she paid the bill herself despite claiming her own consumption amounted to only a fraction of the total cost.

Humiliated and frustrated, she later took to social media to narrate the experience and warn other women about online meetups.

The situation became even more intriguing when she alleged that the man deleted his social media account after she threatened to publicly expose him unless he reimbursed her.

Her post quickly attracted attention, with social media users turning the incident into a mix of cautionary tale and comedy. While some sympathized with her predicament, others joked that Nairobi’s notorious “wash wash” culture had evolved into “date and dash” operations.

Others urged caution when meeting people known only through social media, noting that attractive profiles and mutual friends do not always guarantee genuine intentions.

As the story spread across Kenyan social media, many users were left asking the same question: Was Allan Ochieng simply caught short of cash, or did he execute one of Nairobi’s boldest disappearing acts?

For now, the mystery remains unsolved, but one thing is certain: it was a Sunday night Juliette Awata is unlikely to forget anytime soon.
