Grieving Father Of Hellen Wendy, Nurse Who Drowned In Canada Speaks Out

John Nyabuto, the distraught father of Hellen Wendy, the 23-year-old nurse who died in a freak swimming accident in Canada this week, has spoken about the family’s grief.

In an interview with a local newspaper, Nyabuto described her late daughter who was working in Toronto as his “only hope.”

“She was my only hope. I educated her through difficult means,” Nyabuto to the ‘Standard’. “I have cried all through since I got the sad information. Her friends have been calling explaining what happened.”

Nyabuto also spoke of the challenges she is facing in his efforts to transport her daughter’s body back home for burial.

“I have lost my daughter and there is nothing I can do. I don’t know the cost of transporting the body back home, the pain is too much. I request for help. I am wondering how the body will get back to Kenya,” he added.

Wendy, a happy-go-lucky young professional drowned in a swimming pool on Thursday afternoon. She inadvertently live-streamed the tragedy on her Facebook account. Alone in the pool, the phone camera rolled for three hours before her body was eventually found.

The late Wendy attended Itierio Girls High School in Kisii County, and later studied Oncology nursing at Pwani University. She also undertook pre-Nursing training at Toronto Metropolitan University.
