Blogger Questions Relationship Between Magistrate Charles Oblusta and Lawyer Cecil Miller, Threatens To Spill Secrets

Social media allegations raise concerns about judicial independence and legal ethics

A social media post by blogger Maverick Aoko has ignited a firestorm of controversy, alleging an improper relationship between Magistrate Charles Oblusta and High Court Advocate Cecil Miller that she claims undermines the integrity of Kenya’s judicial system.

In a Facebook post shared on Saturday afternoon, Aoko made serious allegations suggesting that Miller has been “maneuvering the courts, intimidating and threatening people using orders that are mostly signed through connections of Oblusta.”

The blogger posed pointed questions about the nature of the relationship between the magistrate and the lawyer, asking whether it represents “justice, or injustice disguised as justice.”

Aoko further alleged that Miller, whom she described as a High Court advocate expected to deliver justice, has instead used his professional position improperly, claiming he defrauded clients including someone identified as “Peter M Maina” of 24 million shillings.

The post, which included photographs of both individuals, has generated significant attention on social media, with users debating the allegations and calling for investigations into the claims.

Growing Concerns

The allegations come at a time when public confidence in Kenya’s justice system remains a sensitive issue, with ongoing debates about judicial independence and access to justice.

Social media has increasingly become a platform where Kenyans air grievances about perceived injustices, though concerns have also been raised about the accuracy of online allegations and the potential for reputational damage without proper verification.

The case highlights the tension between freedom of expression, accountability in public institutions, and the need to protect individuals from potentially defamatory claims.

As this story develops, calls are growing for relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and provide clarity to the public.
