Ruto’s Ally Kimani Ngunjiri Named In Ngong Forest’s Land Grab

Former and present politicians are among the people who grabbed acres of land in Ngong forest, Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has said.

MP Kimani Ngunjiri is one of the politicians who are at the centre of the Ngong forest scandal and is said to have illegally acquired 18 acres of the land.

A report on the scandal showed that from an initial 7,231 acres of the forest, only 1,330 had been left with 6,000 acres lost to greedy politicians and State officials.

According to Citizen TV, politicians, high-profile individuals and corporations sold the land to many unsuspecting Kenyans who are facing a possible demolition as the government seeks to recover the forest.

Former Kiambaa MP Stanley Munga Githunguri is said to have grabbed 9.24 acres, former Konoi MP Samuel Koech 32 acres, current Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri is also at the centre of the scandal and is said to illegally own 18.24 acres of land.

Major General Njoroge who was in the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) board is said to have acquired a huge parcel of land while churches such as Nairobi Chapel, Mugumoine PCEA Church and St Francis ACK church each sit on 6.5, 2.47 and 2.50 hectares respectively.

“Members of Parliament themselves, both current and past, senior government functionaries. It is not the ordinary mwananchi whoacquired the properties,” Tobiko said.

A total of 159 people own title deeds in the forest and the government asked them to surrender the documents as investigations continue.

Over 800 homes in Nairobi’s Lang’ata area could be brought down as the State readies to recover land it claims was grabbed from the forest.

Those staring at demolition include residents of Sun Valley Estate Phase I, Sun Valley Phase II, Sun Valley Phase III, KMA Lang’ata Estate and Lang’ata Place.

The affected residents of the three Sun Valley estates on Tuesday, June 23, petitioned a law firm to take up the matter with Tobiko’s office.
