Drama As Bodyguard Loses Firearm While Being Massaged At Parlour In Nairobi

Detectives in Nairobi are investigating the loss of a firearm belonging to an officer attached to a former Member of Parliament after it allegedly disappeared from a spa in the city centre.

According to police, a sergeant attached to the Security of Government Buildings unit and assigned to the former legislator said the firearm went missing on May 21, 2026.

The officer told investigators that he had visited a barber shop and spa at around 4 pm, where he requested a complimentary massage.

He reportedly removed his Ceska pistol and placed it under a cushion pillow before the massage session began.

The officer later felt dizzy and decided to rest at the spa. When he woke up at around 11 pm, he discovered that the firearm was missing, he said.

He said he made efforts to search for the weapon but failed to recover it before formally reporting the matter on May 25.

Police visited the scene, but the firearm had not been recovered by the time of the report.

Staff at the facility were interrogated as part of the probe into the incident. The police said they had not recovered it by Wednesday.

There are fears the weapon will be used to commit crimes elsewhere. Police said they were reviewing security cameras in the area as part of the probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, a police officer attached to Kibaoni Police Station in Lamu County was arrested after allegedly firing 21 rounds of ammunition indiscriminately inside a police camp.

The officer is said to have returned to the camp and discovered that his service rifle had earlier been secured in the armoury.

Police said the officer then picked up a CMZ4 rifle loaded with a magazine containing 30 rounds of 5.56×45mm ammunition belonging to another officer who was at the time engaged in physical exercises.

He allegedly discharged 21 rounds of ammunition without authorisation or lawful cause while shouting threats and demanding to know the whereabouts of a sergeant.

No injuries were reported during the incident, police said. The officer was later subdued, arrested and disarmed after his colleagues responded to the alarm.

A search conducted on the suspect reportedly recovered several items that were later sent for tests.

Police said the rifle, magazine, spent cartridges and suspected narcotics were retained as exhibits.

The officer was placed in custody pending administrative and disciplinary action.

The issue was linked to rising cases of stress in the service.

Many officers are exhibiting a rise in depression amid efforts to solve the trend.

Officials say police are generally on the receiving end of all community problems. They are expected to maintain law and order in very difficult situations, besides putting their lives at risk.
