How Progas Owner Mohammed Jaffer Used A Woman To Blackmail CS Joho.

Mombasa tycoon Mohamed Jaffer who is linked to a Ksh 464 million loan scandal involving the East African Development Bank is the boss to Matilda Maodo Kinzani, the woman who is facing defamation charges against Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.

Mr. Jaffer’s was recently sued for fraudulently obtaining a loan facility using a company formerly known as Grain Bulk Handlers Ltd (GBHL) which changed to Bulk stream Limited.

Mombasa Deputy Registrar Rita Orora directed that the matter be mentioned on Thursday to allow the Deputy Registrar to give further directions on whether the file will be placed before the Principal Judge to allocate a trial judge.

A suit filed by the East African Development Bank prompted the directive to have the matter reheard at the Court of Appeal.

Court of Appeal judges, led by Wanjiru Karanja, Asije Mkahandia, and Justice Kair Gatembu, dismissed the judgment by the trial judge and issued orders to have the matter heard afresh.

In 2016, the African Development Bank sued Jaffer Manoj, now deceased, Amritlal Devani, and Mujtaba Jaffer, seeking to recover Ksh 464 million and interest of 12%, which the respondents had obtained from the plaintiffs as a loan.

The matter had been listed for hearing before Mombasa High Court Judge Kizito Mangale, who has since been transferred.

In the suit, the African Development Bank, in its affidavit, stated that the respondents had requested a loan by way of special drawing rights to Kenya Bus Services Mombasa Limited under a loan agreement dated October 1998.

The company defaulted on the repayment of the loan, and as of March 1, 2003, the said amount of money, along with interest at 12% per annum, was outstanding, which the bank sought to recover from the respondents under the said Guarantee.

Meanwhile, Jaffer employed Matilda as his Personal Assistant and the two are reportedly working together in a secret money deal.

Matilda is the controversial woman who hit headlines over blackmail allegations against Mining CS Hassan Joho with intent to extort.

She was charged for blackmailing Joho with his brother Abubakar Ali Joho over drug trafficking and stealing of Sh40 billion.

She also linked the two to theft of containers inside the Kenya ports Authority (KPA).

Mombasa senior resident magistrate, David Odhiambo had ordered that the suspect Matilda Maodo Kinzani should appear before her court to plead to the charges.

Through Jaffer, she hired lawyer Michael Oloo, who requested the court to have a warrant of arrest issued against her lifted.

The magistrate set aside the warrant of arrest and ordered her release on a bond of Kshs 700,000 with one similar surety with an alternative of Kshs 300,000 cash bail.

Matilda is a senior employee of the Grain bulk handlers Ltd now known as Bulk stream.

She is   facing charges of publishing false information under section 23 of the computer misuse and cybercrime Acts.

However, bribery claims have emerged after lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi tweeted about a judge trading with court proceedings. Matilda has been overheard saying that she has brought her freedom and that she is not scared at all.

Mohammed Jaffer is also the owner of Progas Kenya.
