EACC Riddled How Prof. Njoka Who Scored Es In A-Levels Ended Up Being Chuka University VC

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) detectives were puzzled on Wednesday after discovering that Chuka University vice-chancellor Prof. Erustus Nyaga Njoka got a scholarship to study in Russia after his O-levels, despite scoring two Es and a fail.

Appearing before detectives in Isiolo on Wednesday, Prof Njoka was unable to explain how he got a scholarship for studies in Russia, despite having scored grade E in Geography and Biology, and grade O (fail) in Chemistry.

According to a letter from Kenya National Examination Council in our possession, Prof Njoka scored Grade 8 in the general paper during the 1981 Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) – popularly known as A-levels – which made him unqualified to join the university.

He however secured a scholarship by the Kenyan government to study abroad.

During the 7-hour grilling session, the don was unable to produce the original invitation letter to study in Russia, which he asked for time to produce. EACC  however declined the request on grounds that he had been given enough time, and had been dodging summons by the anti-corruption body.

It also emerged that he could have used papers of a complainant who had approached EACC with the original letter that had allegedly been forged.

“However, the detectives are looking at the possibility of the copy he presented being a fake as they hold a complainant who had approached them has the original and what Njoka has is what he stole from him, and went to study with,” revealed a source.

Pressed further, the professor said he did not have the document.

The professor has now been directed to provide the original document he used to go to Russia with as he also seeks information from the Ministry of Information.

Further, Njoka will be required to provide the letter of scholarship he got from the Ministry of Education as it emerges that his results were not sufficient to warrant him a scholarship.

Additionally, no letter has been provided thus far by the Russian university he is alleged to have studied at, indicating he was a student there.

The Commission for University Education is yet to give way forward despite the EACC writing to them seeking correspondence on the matter.

Another question raising eyebrows is the fact that his documents were not certified.

His plight now is a question at the table of education CS George Magoha.
