Journalists are subjected to the voice of the people and protect their rights at all times. Kenyans journalists coverage of the ICC proceedings has been for time now been wanting.
Headlines such as “a big blow to Bensouda as witnesses withdraws” has been taking toll forgetting to mention the blow trickling down to the victims as well.
After several witnesses withdrawing at the last minutes, the court had no option but to adjourn the case from the scheduled last week to this week Tuesday to give prosecution enough time to fly in the witnesses to the Hague and prepare them appropriately.
Today,Tuesday being the first day for the first witness to take on the stand delivering her testimony the stage was all set for revelations.
The witness was only identified by the prosecution using the codes 536 as a security measure to keep her identity from the public.
As soon as the word went around, various propaganda blogs had “unearthed” the trueidentity of the witness, but the real shocker came when a journalist allied to Royal Media Services and citizen TV to ne precise Willis Raburu blew the cover and exposed the witness’ id.
The tweet was sent at exactly 07:06pm on 17/09/2003 Kenyan time. But the sharp eyes of Nairobi Exposed caught up with him and he quickly deleted the tweet but a screenshot was immediately taken.
Willis has since come out to give his defence on the matter saying it didn’t originate from his account and that it was a mere retweet. Claims that the screenshot taken refutes.
According to Witness Protection Act (30) disclosure of the identity of a witness in protection has a 7-year jail term. And on that note here is the exclusive screenshot of the tweet.
