Pray for Punita
Punita, my 37 year old friend
is now a hostage at
Westgate. She had taken Her
4 year old second born son,
Mohinder, to a kids’ event on
the mall rooftop.
They’re lucky to be alive, though
Punita has a bullet wound on
the leg. Nothing life
threatening, no bone broken,
only soft tissue wounds and
some blood lost.
Unfortunately Punita suffers
from a blood sugar condition. It’s now almost 48 hours and she has not eaten anything yet. She tells me
the terrorists are not giving
them anything; not even
water.
Her blood sugar level
is already too low.
Her wound is beginning to
get infected too. Already she
has a fever. Her son too,
Mohinder, is not okey. They
spent a night on the cold
floor and now he has flu.
Mohinder is crying a lot too.
He is hungry.
Her mother tells me she wishes she
could suckle him but her
breasts are dry. The terrorists say if he doesn’t shut up they are going to
shoot him. They are not
bluffing; they have shot
babies younger than
Mohinder for crying.
Babies as old as 9 days.
Patel, Mohinder’s husband is
free but he is not Okay at all.
Yesterday he spent the night
with cops in the cold at
Peponi Road.
He wasn’t wearing a sweater. He didn’t rest or sleep. He says he
won’t leave until wife and
son are rescued. Mr. Patel is
diabetic. For two days he
hasn’t had his insulin shots.
When he spoke to Punita this
morning, she noticed he
sounded sick but he lied to
her he’s fine.
But she noticed. He didn’t tell her
that his insulin supply is
finished. Their family doctor,
Dr. Ochieng was killed at
Westgate and all Hospitals
nearby are full. They are
serving Westgate victims
only, not diabetes patients.
Punita’s problems are far
from over.
They are captured in an overcrowded room with
very little ventilation. She
says the terrorists are raping
wounded women and young
girls in front of kids. She
fears it might affect
Mohinder.
Her periods come in two days. She has no sanitary towels with her; no
one has. She fears the
stressing condition she is in
might make her periods
come earlier. She doesn’t
want Mohinda to see his
mum like that; he won’t
understand.
I spoke to Patel today
midday. He tells me their
maid is gone. The maid’s
brother, a security guard at
Westgate, was shot in the
head and died on the spot
so she had to go to Kisii to
tell her family.
Patel’s first born daughter,10 years old, is taking care of their one
and a half year old baby
now. Patel won’t let Punita
know that. He hopes she will
do just fine as he waits for
their mother’s rescue.
Punita told me she thinks
she has less than 48 hours to
live unless she finds a way to
raise her blood sugar.
She hasn’t been raped yet but
she believes she is will be
once the terrorists finish
taking their lunch. She tells
me sounds of choppers and
gunshots from outside are
giving her hope.I can’t reach
her any more now. Her
phone is quiet. Most of her
fellow captives are worse
than her.
If the KDF commandoes don’t reach her by tomorrow, Punita will die; Raped, hungry, and sick, a
crying baby watching. Please
pray for Punita and share
this story.
