Yesterday Kenyans were subjected to a dramatic debates on the TVs courtesy of our Mps as they discussed a bill to pull out of the Roman statute that ties them to the ICC. The bill was passed amidst CORD affiliated Mps staging a walkout from the Parliament.
As this was going on Nancy Kaveye who was a PEV victim in Naivasha and had her genitals severely mutilated and both his husband and kids slaughtered as she watched whilst getting gang raped. After times she was diagnosed to be HIV positive,though an NGO agency the now Nakuru resident secured a reconstructive surgery on her genitals and has been recuperating well and continuing with her retroviral therapy drugs for HIV.
Just like many Kenyans Nancy has been following the ICC debate with vast interest and according to friends she vowed to sacrifice her life should the mps pass the bill to pull out of the icc but unknown to them she was staging a suicide. Despite the government’s directive to compensate each victim with sh.400,000 she protested saying that’s a cheaper price to buy justice. As we learn,she was vocal about icc and even the last time Bensouda the prosecutor was in the country she forced herself and had an audience with her.
As the debate was going on Nancy according to neighbours she was all alone in her one roomed house and death was building up in her mind as the jubilee affiliated Mps debated and passed the bill. She committed suicide and a friend who came visiting at around 8pm found her body dangling from the roof and with it was a note left which was addressed specifically to the prime ICC suspects President and his Deputy,part of the note read “…..I have waited and nothing is coming,I watched my daughter and two sons slaughtered and my husband neck cut like a chicken,I was raped by 13 men,I contracted AIDS,my life has been hell. While im suffering you are just enjoying good life and laughing with your family,I have none to call my own. ICC has been my only hope and you managed to pull out. You want nothing good for me and since that’s what you wanted i’m gone to join my family. You can continue enjoying life and may your family live not to be in my shoes………..”
