You’ve heard of students selling kidneys for an iPad in China, the same business of selling kidneys and body parts have also hit the markets of Kenya. In the search for money, their is nothing like great heights till you get it. Kenyans population is growing up in double digits while the resources is constant creating a conflict between the two in the event of balancing. Several family planning have been put in to help control the population by preventing unwanted pregnancies as well as having the ability to decide when to finally have one.
Some of the commonly used birthcontrol methods includes the condoms, pills, injections amongst many. Vasectomy is another method which though its uncommon, its a birth control method applicable to mostly men, this is a surgical process that will ensure sperms aren’t released during ejaculation hence no possible way of impregnating. Basically, its a sterilization process that will see you permanently out of producing eggs fertilizing sperms. Now there is an NGO in Kisumu known as ICOK with sponsorship from Norway and USA who have launched a campaign to have residents volunteer for this service which is dreaded. The need rose from the rapidly growing population in the area from lack of proper birth control systems or lack of it’s usage. The organization is offering a monetary reward of sh.50,000 to.any volunteer since you can’t be forced to do it. The high amount of money is meant to look appealing to the public and encourage them to turn in. Contrary to the initial expectations, the organization has had to stay long days waiting for rain in the deserts with no signs of any resident turning up just a few maybe those who are too old.
The organization has been in operation since 2009 and is.yet to hold grip of the residents, they have resorted to launching a media campaign to attract but yet to materialise, big billboards with their message is strategically erected in hotspots areas in Kisumu with one being at the junction of Kondele. Radio stations campaigns launched on major local channels, nam lolwe, radio lake Victoria etc to fuel up and convince the masses but the stats are still not measuring up. The residents are running away from the money and keeping their offsprings ducts intact and to themselves.
I wonder if the same thing would happen in other areas like central, maybe the NGO would be overwhelmed. Would you agree to have your duct chopped for sh.50k?
