Chaos and panic ensued at a Garissa restaurant after Jarajila Ward MCA was caught on CCTV wielding a knife and chasing customers, in a scene that has since gone viral on social media.
Footage from the incident shows panic erupting after a group of women ran into the restaurant, closely followed by the MCA, who was brandishing a knife and wildly chasing them.
At one point, the politician nearly stumbles as he pursues the terrified group, fueling speculations that he was intoxicated.
After managing to evade the MCA, the women dashed out of the premises, causing a brief stampede.
Moments later, the MCA followed them outside but soon returned, bizarrely performing a mock salute and slow march, resembling a head of state inspecting a guard of honour.
The footage sparked widespread outrage and disbelief online.
“He needs a psychologist or psychiatrist for follow-up sessions,” one X user commented.
Another wrote, “We’ve gone from office corruption to MCAs chasing voters with knives? And they’ll still want our votes, Kenyan politics at its rawest.”
Confirming the incident, Garissa sub-county police boss Samwel Boit said no casualties had been reported, adding investigations had been launched.
This incident comes barely a month after another political altercation made headlines, involving two female lawmakers engaging in a physical fight at Parliament grounds.
In yet another viral clip, ODM nominated MP Umulkheir Harun and EALA MP Falhada Iman were filmed in a scuffle, as colleagues, some trying to intervene and others egging them on, looked on.
A male MP was even heard encouraging the brawl while recording the scene, ignoring pleas to stop.
According to Harun, Iman approached her at Parliament with the intent to attack. “She came to Parliament to do nothing but attack me, an incident that blindsided me and left me questioning the motive,” Harun said in a public statement.
Harun later expressed regret over the incident and reaffirmed her commitment to decorum, especially as a leader and a Muslim woman.
The two lawmakers eventually issued a joint apology.
