Businessman Philip Aroko Rearrested After Court Cancels Bail in MP Murder Probe

Businessman Philip Aroko has been rearrested following a successful appeal by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to cancel his earlier release on bail. The Kibera High Court on Tuesday revoked the Ksh 300,000 cash bail granted to Aroko last Friday, pending investigations into the murder of former Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were.

Aroko was initially released by Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Chief Magistrate Irene Gichobi, who imposed strict conditions on his bail. However, the ODPP moved swiftly to challenge the ruling, arguing that his release could jeopardize ongoing investigations into the high-profile case.

He was rearrested on Monday evening and is expected to remain in custody as detectives continue probing the circumstances surrounding the MP’s death. The murder of Charles Were has sparked national interest, with calls for thorough and expedited investigations.

The ODPP welcomed the court’s decision to cancel the bail, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring justice is served in the matter. Further updates on the investigation and court proceedings are expected in the coming days.
