Kenya National Police DT SACCO System Hacked

The extent of the withdrawal or transfer remains unclear, but a major security breach affected the Kenya National Police DT SACCO system.

Sources claim that some hackers got into their system and caused major changes to the account holders, especially the major depositors.

The officials have not yet released an official report on the major security breach that affected the Kenya National Police DT SACCO system nationwide.

Sources claim hackers who compromised the Kenya National Police Sacco system on Thursday night reportedly initiated massive withdrawals of up to six-figure sum. System breach even allowed some people to withdraw funds to M-Pesa from FOSA accounts even with a zero balance.

Authorities discovered and apprehended another gang in 2017 that had been hacking government financial institutions.

The criminals organized an international band that injected malware into the networks, collaborating with insiders and families of “prominent politicians.”

This gave them the ability to take control of the computers owned by the institutions and steal what the enforcement authorities said would amount to hundreds of millions.

Malware is a programme that disables systems to allow hackers to steal money and hack without detection.

A former police officer, an employee of the Kenya Revenue Authority, and two American citizens were among the sixteen suspects in police custody for transnational crimes such as cybercrime and drug trafficking.

Kenyan detectives from the Special Crime Prevention Unit, SCPU, and the Flying Squad were responsible for breaking up the hacking consortium and arresting the individuals involved.
