Congo Giants Eliminate K’Ogallo From CAF

The Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia were on Sunday excluded from Caf Confederation Cup after being defeated 2-1 by DR Congo giants DC Motema Pembe in the second limb play-off match in Kinshasa.

K’Ogalo declined to promote to the league stage after losing 3-2 on aggregate having finalized for a 1-1 draw in the first limb at Kasarani last week.

Wellington unlocked the scoring in the 10th minute after whipping Motema Pembe’s keeper Mouko Marel with a rasping drive from the verge of the box.

Gor held on for the promising part of the first half but were unlucky to acknowledge on the brink of half time when Vinny Bongonga striked in the equaliser.

Steven Polack gave rise to his first change in the 47th minute withdrawing the incompetent Nicholas Kipkurui for Ernest Wendo to help reinforce the midfield and it worked as the visitors poured forward in attack.

Gor basically went ahead in the 53rd minute but Wellington’s association to Kenneth Muguna’s delivery from a corner went wide. On the other end, Bongonga shot wide in the 59th after Doxa Gikanji took the yield of him with a cross.

The period Motema Pembe silently yearned for arrived in the 64th minute when Kone capitalised on a defensive lapse to score from close range.

Gor lost a delightful chance to level in the 78th minute after Muguna’s deep cross was vindicated by Inonga Varane with Lawrence Juma lurking.
