A suspension of Thirdway Alliance Party leader Uhuru Aukot by its National Executive Committee (NEC) has led to chaos. This ensued on Wednesday, August 26, following a resolution by the committee. His ongoing child paternity case was listed as one of the reasons behind the decision.
In the melee, the heated session led to officials engaging in a war of words at their Lavington office. According to an insider, the suspension was hinged on three alleged offences as further detailed in a statement by the party. The allegations include assault on Dr Angela Mwikali, the Deputy Party Leader using crude words which were later published by online bloggers, financial impropriety, self-enrichment, non-accountability and lack of transparency and Defying a court order in Children Case No.1591 of 2019, this violating Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. “Dr Ekuru Aukot has been suspended as the party leader indefinitely and shall not represent or transact any business on behalf of the party pending the determination of the matter by the disciplinary committee,” a statement released by the party reads in part.

On February 20, Aukot was sued by a section of the party officials over the Punguza Mizigo initiative. The three petitioners – Dr.Angela Mwikali Nyalita, Phelister Wakesho Wughangha and Hilda Agnes Nduta Gachahi – said Aukot’s actions were unconstitutional, unlawful and illegal. According to the petitioners, Aukot had not disclosed to any of the other party officials of his ‘Punguza Mizigo Kenya’ and which also approval of the party NEC.
