Wash Wash And UDA Politician Don Bosco Stoned In Kisii Campaign

A UDA parliamentary hopeful in Kitutu Chache North, Kisii, is nursing injuries after his convoy was attacked on Saturday.

The stoning of Don Bosco Gichana’s V8 car surfaced Sunday after he filed a report with police in Rioma.

He sustained injuries to his right hand and had a bandage when he spoke to journalists in Kisii town.

An aide also sustained injuries to the head.

Gichana said he suspects a rival politician from the area was behind the attack.

He said he was leaving a rally in Monyerero township when stones were hurled at his convoy, destroying a number of cars. The politician’s car rear and front shields were smashed.

“It dismays me that some politicians want to use outdated methods to intimidate some of us. Wherever they may be, let them be ashamed, we are not going to cower and run away,” he said.

Some witnesses, however, said Gichana had come to the function late and was leaving without giving them handouts.

“The residents had turned up in large numbers and only got mad when he decided to leave them empty-handed. We suspect that is why some youth who had become agitated for waiting too long turned against him,” resident Japheth Getiro said.

Gichana said he had received intelligence that there were plans to stone the helicopter he had hired for the event and quickly changed plans and decided to use his car.

“I heard the same youth had been paid to stone the chopper if I came in it. I want to warn any politician using our youths for such dirty errands to stop,” he said.

“We are just alive by the mercies of the Lord but for how long are we going to entertain violence in the name of elections. We want police to take action on any youth being used to foment violence. We must stand up and say no to barbaric acts committed in the name of politics.”

Gichana said he expects a quick probe and subsequent arrests of the suspects.

The politician, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, is among two others scrambling for the UDA ticket in the MP race.
