ODM Presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi has rubbished a proposal made by Raila Odinga to give Ksh6,000 monthly to jobless youths as well as impoverished families if elected as the fifth President of the republic in next year’s general elections
Wanjigi said Raila’s proposal is not economically possible to a nation that’s already struggling to pay debts.
Addressing the press at AIPCA Kutus, Kirinyaga County Wanjigi observed that the country would spend Ksh300 billion every year if it was to implement Raila’s proposal.
“There is an estimated 4 million unemployed youths, and if you give SKsh 6,000 for each of these youths, that amounts to about Ksh300 billion,” he said.
He added that implementing the proposal would also be unfair to the working class, as it would burden the taxpayers who are already being overtaxed by the current regime.
Wanjigi noted that instead of promising money to the impoverished, Raila should push for full implementation of the national social security act that provides the framework for government to financially assist all unemployed Kenyans.
He said despite being passed by Parliament in 2013, the government is yet to implement the said act.
Wanjigi insisted that he will vie for the presidency and called for fair ODM party primaries.
He said his plan is empowering ordinary Kenyans and would push the agenda all through his campaigns.
Wanjigi further took a swipe on ODM leaders and other key national politicians for being in power for decades and failing to give Kenyans transformative leadership.
“My agenda is to empower Kenyans by showing them how to make money,” he said.
