President Uhuru dares DP Ruto to resign

President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Deputy President William Ruto to quit his government if he is dissatisfied with his leadership.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Kenyan media editors at State House on Monday, August 23.

President Uhuru challenged his deputy to take the bold step instead of criticising his government and at the same time taking credit for his development projects

“The honourable thing is that if you are not happy, you step aside and allow those who want to move on, to move on. So that you can also take your agenda to the people. This is what happens in any normal democracy. You can’t have your cake and eat it,” president Uhuru said.

He also dismissed claims that his meetings with ODM leader Raila Odinga and OKA leader at Mombasa State House are about getting a suitable presidential candidate who will defeat DP Ruto.

On why the DP was sidelined during his Mombasa meetings, Uhuru said: “He (DP Ruto) has been opposed to the process; meetings are not about selecting a candidate. You cannot bring someone who does not want to see things happen on board. You cannot force something down someone’s throat,” Uhuru said.

On the Court of Appeal judgement on BBI referendum, President Uhuru said the initiative was not meant for him.

According to him, it was simply meant to maintain peace and stability of the country after a general election.

He added that the initiative was highly politicized to appear as if it was a competition yet in the real sense it wasn’t.

“BBI is not personal for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve. Part of my agenda is to bring people together and maintain a peaceful, stable, and united country. The courts have been highly misguided on that process, it is not a competition issue,” he said.
