Jubilee Sends A Warning To Judges Ruling Against BBI

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has come under fierce criticism from a section of Kenyans following his remarks on the security of judges.

The SG while speaking to NTV on Monday, on the High Court ruling that nullified the BBI referendum, told judges to remember they need police security while going home after making rulings.

“Judges should learn the word ‘interdependence’ because as soon as they finish a ruling, they need policemen to escort them home,” he said.

The remarks have attracted czar criticism from a section of Kenyans who came to the defence of the judges and accused Tuju of trying to intimidate the Judiciary.

Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi dismissed Tuju saying Judges have a right to security as per the law.

“Raphael Tuju, hear and get me loud and clear. Your buffoonery seems to know no limit. Judges volunteer to serve in an Arm of Government,” Havi said.

“Their security is not a privilege but a right. This is not Uganda in the 70s. Cross that line again and you will live to regret it,” he added.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen took a swipe at Tuju saying it is the courts that gave him relief when he was fighting a bankruptcy suit,

“The way Mr. Raphael Tuju of Rarienda is threatening Judges would make you think he is not the same person fighting for his dear life after he was declared bankrupt. Without a court order he couldn’t be holding any office not even as the chairman of Nyayiera cattle dip,” Murkomen said.

Lawyer Esther Ang’wa, who was part of the legal team that shot down the BBI referendum, dismissed Tuju saying BBI is of no benefit.

“Did BBI open the IEBC servers? Did BBI address the transmission of results debacle? Did BBI kill Msando and force Dr Akombe to flee Kenya?” she posed.

Tuju also faulted the High Court judges that nullified the BBI process saying they errored in their decison.

He said the BBI initiative is keen on ending perennial violence after each General Elections adding that judges should have supported rather than breaking it.
