A number of leaders from the Moses Wetangula-led Ford-Kenya party have absconded from the party and joined the freshly launched Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch and Lwande Oneko, who was previously in charge of internal affairs at Ford Kenya, are said to have led the turncoat party members to the Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi-led party, which on Wednesday launched its headquarters, Chui House, in Nairobi.
“DAP Kenya is the fastest-growing party and we want to assure that we shall field candidates in all the elective seats except president which we will leave for Raila Odinga,” Wamunyinyi told journalists during the launch event.
The party similarly added Trans Nzoia Senator Michael Mbito, who was affiliated to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, to its ranks.
“In Trans Nzoia, there is no other party now other than DAP,” Mbito said on his part.
Wamunyinyi, while assuring the new members of a free and fair internal nominations process for positions, similarly urged other legislators to join his camp.
“The party is going to be available to receive new members. Our door will be open,” said Wamunyinyi.
Wamunyinyi similarly urged his party members to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja campaign and to refrain from making inciteful remarks as they ramp up support ahead of the August-slated polls.
“I hope party members, that you will not go in that direction and that you will walk with Raila Odinga in Azimio La Umoja to unite our country,” Wamunyinyi said.
