Jubilee party has cleared businessman Richard Ngatia as the candidate for the Nairobi governorship contest. This has dealt a blow to businesswoman Agnes Kagure who’s been hopeful to conquer the seat currently held by Ann Kananu. Kagure had chosen Jubilee party for her bid.
Speaking after receiving his credentials, Jubilee party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni described Ngatia as the best person to lead Nairobi because of his management skills.
“It is the joy of every political party to receive aspirants of quality like Ngatia. Knowing where we are coming from as Nairobi dwellers, you can actually see the difference from the previous administration”, Kioni said.
Kioni said that as a party, they will lobby to ensure Ngatia has been given the ticket to vie under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
“We are in consultations with other parties within Azimio and we are confident that Ngatia will be the best. Listening to him, you get the image of a manager who has the potential of leading Nairobi,” Kioni said.
On his part, Ngatia said he is committed to transforming Nairobi by making it a better place.
In particular, Ngatia said he will bring in policies that will see the current markets improved and put into a quality state.
“My dream is to make Nairobi a place where everyone can do business effectively. This city controls 60 per cent of our GDP,” he said.
Ngatia also promised to deal with city cartels that have controlled Nairobi for the longest time ever.
Ngatia on the other side is faced with integrity issues as his validity of his degree from a UK University has been questioned. As a requirement, IEBC requires gubernatorial candidates to hold degrees to qualify.
