Uhuru Lifts Lockdown, Revises Curfew Hours

President Uhuru Kenyatta has lifted the cessation of movement into and out of the five counties previously declared as disease infected areas owing to the drop of Covid-19 infections in the areas.

The President also issued a directive revising curfew hours to begin at 10.00PM and to end at 4.00AM in the Counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru with effect from midnight.

Uhuru issued the directives during the Labour Day celebration held in State House Nairobi saying the decision to ease down some of the measures was as a result of decrease in Covid-19 infections in the zoned area.

“After one month of lockdown, Covid caseload within the zoned area has come down by 72%. In other areas of the Republic, the Covid caseload fell by 89% in Mombasa and 90% in Busia between March and April,” he stated

Additionally the President allowed for in-person and congregational worship to resume countrywide with only a maximum of one-third of the capacity of places of worship allowed at each worship session.

“In-person and congregational worship shall resume in strict fidelity to the guidelines issued by the Inter-Faith Council and Ministry of Health. However, the attending congregation is capped to one-third of the capacity of the place of worship,” he directed.

Restaurants and bars have also been allowed to operate until 7Pm with strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

Uhuru also directed all hospitals to limit the number of visitors for hospitalized patients to one visitor per patient per day.

The ban on political gathering will continue to be in place until otherwise directed.

The president further called upon Kenyans to take personal responsibility in the fight against Covid-19 which has nearly led to collapse of globally acclaimed health systems.
